Orange to launch 3G+ in ten cities, on June 25

Orange 3G+The launch coincides with the ten-year anniversary of the mobile phone company in Romania.Orange Romania will launch 3G+ services in ten cities on June 25, increasing thus the speed of transfer of the mobile data for the current clients of the services 3G/EDGE to 3.6 Mbps, without increasing tariffs, announced yesterday the mobile telephony operator at a press conference on the occasion of the celebration of ten years of activity on the Romanian market.

The 3G service of Orange Romania has now 400,000 clients. The company intends to double the number of 3G clients until the end of the year, according to the commercial manager Thierry Millet. The company did not specify what cities will benefit from 3G+ services, an official announcement in this respect being expected in the coming weeks. Orange launched the 3G services in June 2006.
The company introduced the data transfer technology EDGE (called also 2.75G) at the beginning of 2005 in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara and Brasov. In May 2006, EDGE technology became available in all the cities capitals of counties and on the littoral.

3G+ technology offers theoretical speeds up to seven times quicker than 3G, up to a possible maximum of 14 Mbps. The mobile telephony company Orange is the market leader in Romania with over 8.2 M clients at the end of the first quarter 2007.

Orange is a member of the group France Telecom, one of the biggest communication companies in the world, with almost 160 million clients on five continents.
