Orange to launch 3G+ in ten cities, on June 25

Orange 3G+The launch coincides with the ten-year anniversary of the mobile phone company in Romania.Orange Romania will launch 3G+ services in ten cities on June 25, increasing thus the speed of transfer of the mobile data for the current clients of the services 3G/EDGE to 3.6 Mbps, without increasing tariffs, announced yesterday the mobile telephony operator at a press conference on the occasion of the celebration of ten years of activity on the Romanian market.

The 3G service of Orange Romania has now 400,000 clients. The company intends to double the number of 3G clients until the end of the year, according to the commercial manager Thierry Millet. The company did not specify what cities will benefit from 3G+ services, an official announcement in this respect being expected in the coming weeks. Orange launched the 3G services in June 2006. Romania Salutes the Adoption of the Regulation of the Roaming Tariffs by the European Parliament

Regulation of the Roaming TariffsThe European Parliament adopted the European regulation concerning the reduction of roaming tariffs at the level foreseen by the compromise proposal agreed a week before, within the informal dialogue between the representatives of the European Parliament, the European Commission and the European Union Council.

The regulation for the reduction of roaming tariffs adopted by the European Parliament contains elements sustained by Romania, through MCIT, within the European Union Council. Following the adoption of the regulation, tariffs will drastically decrease to advantage of citizens. (more…)

share of the IT outsourcing cakeThe rise and rise of Bangalore as the centre of outsourcing could be under threat from new challengers nearer to Europe’s commercial heart. Increasingly, companies are being attracted to workforces in countries such as Romania, which, a report suggests, have better language skills and a keener understanding of their clients than competitors further east.

A survey of European chief information officers (CIOs) found that nearly 90 per cent would prefer a more local supplier for at least some of their IT services and that just under a third had unsatisfactory experiences with companies in more distant countries, such as India and China.

In the KPMG survey of more than 100 companies, more than half of CIOs said that they planned to boost spending on suppliers in Central and Eastern Europe, including Romania, the Czech Republic, and Hungary; less than a third forecast similar increases in Asia’s emerging markets. (more…)

The EU Accession – New Business Opportunities on the Romanian IT&C Market

The EU AccessionThe Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Zsolt Nagy, attended the reunion “Romania after EU Accession – New Business Opportunities” that took place in Budapest, Hungary.

„From the reduction of tariffs for communications services and information technology, as a result of the competition growth, to the access to the structural funds, Romania has had much to gain as a EU Member State. In order to value this membership, Romania may use the experience of old Member States such as Hungary, with whom we have a longer relationship regarding the bilateral relations in the field of information technology and communications.”, said Minister Zsolt Nagy.

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology recalled the opportunities offered by the Romanian market to foreign investors. Thus, the Minister mentioned the legislative framework for communications and informations technology – one of the most modern in Europe -, the quality of the human rescource, that represents one of the main attractions for the IT&C foreign investors, the financial advantages offered by the unique tax quota and also about the structural founds dedicated to the sector, rating over 380 milions of euros.
