Survey Finds Increase in Outsourcing Demand

Outsourcing was at the center of labor talks between Boeing and the International Association of Machinists and resulted in the aerospace giant making some concessions on the practice in the future.

Despite that news, outsourcing appears to be on the rise following the results of a new study from sourcing advisory company EquaTerra. The firm surveyed some 200 outsourcing suppliers and found that more than 40 percent had seen an increase in demand even amid current economic conditions, reports InfoWorld.

Outsourcing trends adapt to economic climate

The latest market research predicts a strong pipeline of outsourcing deals, but warns that buyers are slowing or deferring projects in response to the gloomy economic outlook.

The global IT and business process outsourcing market during the last quarter has found positive growth driven by the need to initiate cost-saving organisational change, according to a new report.

Despite the fact that global economic uncertainty is tightening enterprise IT purse strings, the findings of consultancy EquaTerra’s Pulse survey for the third quarter of 2008 show demand for outsourcing is outpacing business investments in areas such as hardware, software or other types of more discretionary project-based services.

The Economic Crisis – an Opportunity

ZDNet published an article entitled “India’s Outsourcing Bubble is Bursting” – describing the slowdown as it effects the IT Outsourcing labor market in Bangalore.

While it doesn’t appear that Bangalore is in the full throes of doom-and-gloom, the article points to key indicators of a slowdown – falls in housing prices, stabilizing salaries, and many more people looking for work. (more…)
