Why, when and how to outsource

resized_shutterstock_506057.jpgMore than just a procurement programme, outsourcing arrangements need close management from the outset in order to achieve optimum performance.

The decision to outsource is not something to be taken lightly – it is fundamental to an organisation’s strategy and business model.

The outsourcing event should not be viewedas simply another procurement programme to be executed by a purchasing department rather the purchasing department needs to work closely with the business, IT, the legal team, HR, tax and commercial departments and staff representatives to maximise the potential benefits.

With so many parties playing crucial roles, governance is critical at each stage of the process.

In the next two years, outsourcing contracts worth many billions of pounds will either be coming to the end of their tenure or being terminated early.

With users facing a wide range of options including termination, renegotiation, transition back in-house and re-tendering, this is an ideal opportunity to go back to first principles. (more…)

Nokia invests EUR 60 M in production plant, research centre in Cluj

resized_shutterstock_919365.jpgNokia, the world’s leading mobile phone supplier and a leading supplier of mobile and fixed telecom networks decided to open a production unit and a research centre in Romania, in Cluj County.

The memorandum of understanding for the establishment of the plant was signed at Victoria Palace between representatives of the Cluj County Council and the Finish mobile phone producer.

The two associates will open a mobile phone production plant and a research centre in Cluj. According to a communiqué by the Government, the signing of the Memorandum was preceded by a meeting between the Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu and Nokia Vice President Raimo Puntala. (more…)

BitDefender awarded again

BitDefender Professional Plus Client offers antivirus, firewall, antispam and antispyware protection and it can be integrated with BitDefender Enterprise Manager, which allows centralized management of the company’s network users.

The IT catch 22: how to find the time to make IT more strategic?

resized_shutterstock_85235.jpgIT departments are currently faced with an avalanche of exciting new technologies that need to be evaluated and assimilated, along with the requirement to comply with new regulations, support ongoing change and align IT with a changing and ever-more competitive business environment.

And, if that were not enough, they have to do all this without a significant rise in their budgets. Oh and then there’s the little matter of moving towards a service-oriented infrastructure and formulating a strategy to deal with the increasing number of security attacks widely predicted for the next few year. “If only we had the time to be strategic!” say the thousands of IT managers struggling just to deliver the everyday levels of service their companies require. One in three dissatisfied with offshoring outside Europe

resized_shutterstock_923084.jpgAlmost a third of European IT managers have had unsatisfactory experiences with non-European service suppliers, according to a survey by the Economist Intelligence Unit.

The research also found that 40% believed European suppliers retained a competitive edge in IT innovation and technical excellence.

Although many multinationals have struck deals with IT services companies based in Asia or the Indian subcontinent as part of a trend towards offshoring, almost 90% of the 100 IT managers surveyed across 20 European countries said they preferred to use local suppliers for at least some of their products and services.
